Creating Independent Conservation Burial Space in the Heart of NH
White Mountain Conservation Burial provides independent conservation burial space in partnership with land trust entities to protect land while honoring the lives of all who have valued the Lakes Region and White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Everyone wants to be buried as close to places people have associated them with during their lifetime. This sense of place is central to the concept of natural burial, but in a different way. Rather than focusing on proximity, people who choose natural burial value the sense of place being in nature provides. It's about belonging to the land that sustained them in life, and their opportunity to contribute to the earth.
Our cemetery nonprofit organization has been formed to partner with landowners and land trusts to build and maintain burial grounds on land located in environments that resonate with nature enthusiasts. Whether you've spent time hiking the 4,000 footers or been surrounded by them while on the lakes, you will likely be hoping to find a permanent home in a place that honors your experience of central and northern New Hampshire.
Our goal is to establish burial grounds in various locations surrounding the central NH area, including Grafton, Carol, and Belknap counties.

Board of Directors
Every cemetery in New Hampshire must be organized and run by a nonprofit corporation with a working board of at least five directors. Many hands make light work, so if you're interested in joining the Board, just let us know.
Trail Crew
If you want to be part of a trail crew, we'll have plenty for you to do! Each area will need trail development and maintenance for both burial areas and recreational pathways for hikers, birdwatchers, nature classes, and community events.
Burial Crew
Active burials go best when there are many shovels at work. If you'd like to be on call to help with prepping and clean up before and after services, add your name to the list. Nothing feels better than a good bit of digging with like-minded souls.
Help Keep Us Organized
And if you want to find another way to support the work, there will be plenty to do, from newsletter mailing lists to public outreach to fielding questions to gathering and soliciting supplies, and more. Welcome aboard!
