Advocating for natural burial is about two things: research and outreach. Contact Us for written materials, slide presentations, flyers, and training. All it takes is the commitment of your time and intention to making natural burial happen in NH. To see a partial list of our advocacy materials, go to our Document Library.

What can you be doing to champion success?

Raising Community Awareness and Spurring Interest
  • ​Reach out to libraries, senior centers, hospices, schools and universities, adult education providers, civic groups, food co-ops, land trusts, permaculture groups, death meets, churches—anywhere people congregate
  • Distribute rack cards in public places in your community
  • Set up an information table at fairs and community gatherings
  • Grow neighborhood awareness through organized door knock campaigns
  • Discuss your advocacy with town officials and state representatives
  • Start an interest group in your town
Creating Space in Municipal Cemeteries
  • Explore websites such as New Hampshire Funeral Resources and Education, Green Burial Council, Conservation Burial Alliance, Funeral Consumers Alliance 
  • Speak with your town’s elected cemetery trustees
  • Ask for existing cemetery bylaws
  • Speak with friends, neighbors, and family members about it
  • Put out a survey of people in your town to gauge their interest
  • Ask for a sense of the meeting at your annual town meeting
  • Propose a warrant article at your annual town meeting
Creating Space in Religious Cemeteries
  • Discuss policies with church cemetery leaders
  • Sponsor presentations after service
  • Coordinate with your faith community leader to speak from the pulpit
  • Form a committee to explore options
  • Survey congregants to ascertain interest
  • Initiate fundraising in support of NBNH's charitable efforts
